Khajuraho MP V.D. Sharma demands direct flights to Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru in Lok Sabha

Khajuraho Member of Parliament (MP) Vishnu Datt Sharma has raised a significant demand in the Lok Sabha regarding the expansion of air connectivity to the world-renowned heritage site. Speaking during the Zero Hour, Sharma urged the central government to introduce direct flights linking Khajuraho with major metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.

Highlighting the global significance of his constituency, the MP emphasized that Khajuraho is not just an iconic city but a UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts a vast number of domestic and international tourists annually. However, the current infrastructure limits the potential influx of visitors due to restricted travel options.

Limited Connectivity Hampering Tourism

Sharma pointed out that at present, the air connectivity to the region is severely limited. He noted that there is currently only one flight route operational, which connects Mumbai, Khajuraho, and Varanasi. This single link is insufficient to cater to the high demand from travelers wishing to visit the historic temples.

The MP argued that better connectivity is essential for the region’s development and the convenience of tourists. He specifically requested the Civil Aviation Minister to consider the needs of the people of the Khajuraho region and the tourism sector by sanctioning new routes.

Direct Appeal to the Ministry

In his address, Sharma formally requested the intervention of the Union Civil Aviation Minister. He stated that direct flights from key hubs like Kolkata and Bengaluru, alongside better frequency from Mumbai, would significantly boost the local economy and tourism sector.

“My parliamentary constituency Khajuraho is a World Heritage and iconic city. Tourists from the country and the world come to Khajuraho in large numbers. I request the Honorable Aviation Minister to provide air connectivity to Khajuraho from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.” — Vishnu Datt Sharma, MP Khajuraho

The demand reflects the long-standing aspirations of the local population and the tourism industry, which relies heavily on the ease of access for international travelers.
