Delhi New Year’s Eve 2025: Major Traffic Curbs in Connaught Place, India Gate from 7 PM on Dec 31

New Delhi: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory announcing significant traffic restrictions in and around Connaught Place (CP) and India Gate on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025. The measures, aimed at managing the large crowds expected for the celebrations, will come into effect from 7 PM onwards and will apply to all private and public transport vehicles.

According to the advisory, vehicular traffic will be barred from heading towards Connaught Place beyond certain points. The restrictions are designed to ensure smooth traffic flow in other parts of the city and enhance safety in popular celebration zones.

Restrictions Around Connaught Place

From 7 PM on Tuesday, no vehicles will be permitted to proceed towards Connaught Place from several key intersections. These include Mandi House roundabout, Bengali Market roundabout, the northern end of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing, and Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Railway Station).

Other points of restriction are the R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market roundabout, G.P.O. roundabout, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road-Ferozshah Road crossing, Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane, and Windsor Place roundabout. The police have clarified that no vehicle, without a valid pass, will be allowed into the Inner, Middle, or Outer Circles of Connaught Place.

Parking and Commuter Advisory

Parking facilities in the vicinity of Connaught Place will be extremely limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The traffic police have warned that any vehicles parked improperly will be towed, and legal action will be taken against the owners.

Designated parking areas include:

Near Gole Dak Khana on Kali Bari Marg, Pt. Pant Marg, and Bhai Veer Singh Marg.

Near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind All India Radio.

Near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House.

Near Minto Road on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg and Press Road area.

On R.K. Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road, and Basant Road towards Pahar Ganj.

Near Bengali Market on Babar Road and Tansen Marg.

Near Windsor Place on Rajendra Prasad Road and Raisina Road.

For those travelling to the New Delhi Railway Station from south Delhi, police have recommended alternative routes via Rani Jhansi Road, Mandir Marg, and Deshbandhu Gupta Road, as access from Connaught Place via Chelmsford Road will be closed. Travel to the Old Delhi Railway Station will not be affected by these arrangements.

Alternate Routes and India Gate Arrangements

To avoid congestion, commuters have been advised to use alternate routes for north-south and east-west travel. For north-south movement, options include the Ring Road from ISBT to Ashram or via Delhi Gate, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Mathura Road. For east-west travel, commuters can take the Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, and Shankar Road.

Special arrangements have also been made for the India Gate area. If pedestrian footfall becomes too high, vehicular traffic will be diverted away from the C-Hexagon. Diversions will be placed at multiple points, including Q-point, Sunheri Masjid roundabout, Janpath-Mansingh Road, and Windsor Place.

The police have urged the public to use public transportation, especially the Delhi Metro, and to follow traffic rules. For any updates, citizens can follow the Delhi Traffic Police’s official website and social media handles on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or contact their helpline numbers 1095 and 011-25844444.
