The focus for the December 26–29 window is on offering a wide buffet of content designed to keep viewers glued to their screens throughout the holiday break.

Industry observers note that this approach marks a departure from the traditional reliance on tentpole releases. Instead of front-loading one massive title, streamers are deploying a multi-title discovery strategy. The goal is clear: hold viewer attention across fragmented devices—from mobile phones to tablets and TVs—and reduce subscriber churn heading into the new year.

The Battle for Binge-Watchers

Netflix is leading the charge with high-profile global content, positioning Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 as its marquee title. Viewers are showing a strong preference for regional originals dubbed in Hindi, as well as local crime thrillers and social dramas.

In a strategic move, platforms appear to be holding back comedy and light entertainment releases for early January, focusing on gripping, intense narratives to close out the year.
