New Delhi: Residents across North India can expect little respite from the winter chill in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged the persistence of cold wave conditions and dense fog across several northern states in its latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin.
According to the national weather agency, night and early morning hours will continue to see dense to very dense fog. This weather pattern is particularly affecting Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and adjoining areas of the northern plains. The heavy fog cover has already resulted in significantly reduced visibility at isolated locations, potentially impacting early morning commuters.
Central and Southern India Update
The cold has also extended its reach into central India. The IMD noted that isolated places in Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring regions have experienced cold weather conditions accompanied by fog. However, the overall weather pattern across these regions remains largely dry.
The bulletin highlighted that no significant rainfall activity was recorded anywhere in the country during the past 24 hours. Southern and south-central regions are mirroring this trend, reporting dry weather with lower night temperatures in isolated pockets but maintaining generally stable winter conditions.
Forecast: No Immediate Change
Looking ahead, the IMD’s short-range forecast suggests that the current atmospheric conditions will hold steady. Cold wave pockets and morning fog are likely to continue over the northern plains.
For the majority of the country, the department does not foresee any drastic shifts in the immediate future. The weather is expected to remain dry, with stable winter patterns continuing across western and eastern parts of India as well.
