New Delhi: Young Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi has etched his name in the history books with a sensational knock in the ongoing ACC Under-19 Asia Cup. The left-handed batter smashed a record-breaking 171 runs against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), setting a new benchmark for youth cricket.

Suryavanshi’s innings is now the highest individual score in the history of men’s Under-19 One Day Internationals (ODIs). He surpassed the previous record held by Zimbabwe’s Ryan Burl, who scored an unbeaten 161 back in 2009. The Indian youngster achieved this feat in just 115 balls, displaying an aggressive brand of cricket that dismantled the opposition bowling attack.

Dominant Display in Dubai

The match witnessed complete domination by the Indian colts. Suryavanshi’s marathon innings was studded with 22 boundaries and seven massive sixes. His relentless hitting propelled India to a commanding total of 358 for 4 in their allotted 50 overs.

He was well-supported by his teammates, with Ahan Padda chipping in with 54 and Pratham Singh adding a useful 47. However, the day belonged entirely to Suryavanshi, whose performance became the standout moment of the competition so far.

In response, the UAE side crumbled under the pressure of the massive target. They were bowled out for 192, handing India a comprehensive 166-run victory. The win has solidified India’s position in the tournament as they move closer to the knockout stages.

A Rapid Rise

This tournament marks one of Suryavanshi’s earliest appearances at the international age-group level. He made his India Under-19 debut only earlier this season. Despite his relative inexperience on the international stage, he has quickly adapted to the demands of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup.

The 171-run knock was also his first century in an ICC-recognised Under-19 ODI competition. He has been regarded as a promising talent in domestic circles, having earned his spot in the national squad through consistent performances in junior cricket. This record-breaking innings has now firmly underlined his potential and impact.

India will next face either Bangladesh or Nepal in their final group-stage fixture. With Suryavanshi in red-hot form, the team will be looking to carry this momentum into the crucial phases of the tournament.
