Ladli Behna Yojana: 1.26 crore women await 32nd installment of ₹1,500; no official date yet

Beneficiaries of the Madhya Pradesh government’s flagship Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana are currently awaiting the release of the scheme’s 32nd installment. While expectations are high for a transfer in January, the state administration has not yet announced an official date for the credit.

The scheme, which stands as one of the state’s largest direct benefit transfer initiatives, currently supports approximately 1.26 crore eligible women. Under the existing framework, beneficiaries receive a monthly aid of ₹1,500, culminating in an annual financial support of ₹18,000.

Expected Timeline and Official Stance

The government has successfully released 31 installments up until December 2025. Attention is now focused on the January payout. Following the traditional release pattern, the monthly assistance is usually credited directly to bank accounts between the 10th and 15th of each month. Based on this precedent, the next tranche is anticipated before mid-January 2026.

However, clarity is still awaited from the authorities. The Women and Child Development Department has not issued a formal notification regarding the schedule. Similarly, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has not made any public statement specifying the exact timeline for the upcoming transfer.

Evolution of the Scheme

Launched in May 2023, the Ladli Behna Yojana was designed to bolster women’s financial independence, improve their decision-making role within households, and support better health and nutrition outcomes. The first installment was disbursed on June 10, 2023, starting with a monthly sum of ₹1,000.

The benefit amount has seen progressive hikes over time:

In October 2023, the aid was increased to ₹1,250. Later, from November 2025, the assistance was raised by another ₹250, bringing the current monthly total to ₹1,500. Additionally, the government provided special assistance of ₹250 during Raksha Bandhan in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Official data indicates the scale of the initiative, with over ₹48,632 crore transferred to beneficiaries between June 2023 and December 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

The scheme targets permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh aged between 21 and 60 years. It covers women who are married, widowed, divorced, abandoned, or from economically weaker sections. While general beneficiaries receive the full ₹1,500, women who are already recipients of other social security pensions are provided ₹900 per month under this framework.

Strict exclusion criteria are also in place to ensure the aid reaches the needy. Women are ineligible if their self-declared annual family income exceeds ₹2.5 lakh or if they are income tax payers. Families owning more than five acres of agricultural land or a four-wheeler (excluding tractors) are also excluded.

Furthermore, households with members employed as regular, permanent, or contractual staff in government departments, PSUs, or local bodies—or those receiving government pensions—cannot avail of the benefits.
