MP CM Mohan Yadav Launches ‘Swachh Jal Abhiyan’, Vows Clean Drinking Water for All Citizens

Bhopal: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday launched the ‘Swachh Jal Abhiyan’, a comprehensive statewide campaign aimed at ensuring the supply of safe and clean drinking water to every citizen in Madhya Pradesh. The initiative was announced during a high-level meeting at the state airport’s assembly hall following the Chief Minister’s return from a tour of Sagar district.

Addressing officials and public representatives via video conferencing, CM Yadav emphasised that providing clean drinking water is a fundamental responsibility of urban and rural local bodies. He directed authorities to ensure the supply is pure and to conduct regular quality checks, stressing that contaminated water should not be supplied under any circumstances.

“It is our responsibility to deliver clean water to every household. This is a big challenge, but we will face it seriously and present a model for the country.” — Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister

The Chief Minister stated that the government is committed to implementing better management practices for water supply and called upon public representatives and officials to work together diligently.

Two-Phase Campaign and Public Hearings

The ‘Swachh Jal Abhiyan’ will be executed in two phases. The first phase is scheduled from January 10 to February 28, followed by the second phase from March 1 to March 31.

A key feature of the campaign is the establishment of a ‘Jal Sunwai’ (Water Hearing) system to address public grievances related to drinking water. These hearings will be held every Tuesday, and citizens can also register their complaints on the CM Helpline number 181 for time-bound resolution. Officials have been instructed to take these hearings seriously and ensure applicants are informed about the resolution of their issues.

Technology-Driven Monitoring and Infrastructure Upgrades

The campaign will leverage technology to enhance monitoring and efficiency. A GIS map-based application will be used to oversee the campaign’s progress. The plan includes mapping water and sewage pipelines to identify and rectify intersection points that could cause contamination.

Further, the government plans to use robots to inspect pipelines for leakages. CM Yadav praised the Urban Development department for its initiative to use an app for this purpose. The campaign will also focus on:

  • Cleaning all water treatment plants and water storage tanks.
  • Regular quality testing of all drinking water sources and monitoring of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
  • Taking concrete short-term and long-term measures to ensure a consistent supply of clean water.
  • Repairing all pipeline leakages to prevent contamination and water wastage.

The Chief Minister issued a stern warning that officials and employees found negligent in the implementation of the campaign will face strict action.
