A 20-year-old youth was left fighting for his life after a brutal assault by a group of over half a dozen men in Chhatarpur on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 8:10 PM on Pathapur Road, under the jurisdiction of the City Kotwali police station.
The victim, identified as Raj Pathak, son of Mahendra Pathak, sustained severe injuries to his head, hands, and other parts of his body. Due to his critical condition, doctors at the district hospital referred him to a medical facility in Gwalior for specialized treatment.
Ambush near Sahu’s Mill
According to the victim’s family, Raj was walking in the neighborhood with friends when the attack took place. As they reached near Sahu’s flour mill (Chakki), a group of assailants allegedly ambushed him.
The family has named several individuals involved in the assault, including Manish, Nandu, Pappu, Pulao Dada, Chandu, and Chatur Kushwaha. The attackers reportedly surrounded the youth and beat him mercilessly using iron rods, sticks (lathis), stones, and the butt of a country-made pistol (katta). The assault left Raj unconscious and bleeding heavily on the spot.
Police Action and Reward Announced
Family members rushed the injured youth to the district hospital. However, given the severity of his injuries, he was admitted to the trauma ward before being referred to Gwalior. His condition remains critical.
Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Agam Jain, CSP Arun Sharma, and Kotwali Station In-charge Arvind Dangi, reached the scene with a police force. Based on the names provided by the family, the police have already detained two suspects for questioning.
To expedite the investigation, SP Agam Jain has announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the absconding main accused. Police teams have been instructed to conduct raids and ensure the swift arrest of all individuals involved in the violent attack. The investigation is currently underway.
